Japan, IOC support the idea of holding Tokyo Games in July 2021

After several rounds of talks, the Japanese organizers and the International Olympic Committee have come together in support of the idea of holding the Tokyo Olympic Games that were scheduled to be held this year, in July next year.

After Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike raised the idea of organising the Tokyo Games in a less hot and humid time of the year, on Friday, March 27, local public broadcaster NHK revealed on Sunday, March 29, that the opening ceremony of the event would be scheduled for July 23, 2021 while the games would conclude on August 8, next year.

Japan had last week, announced that it had locked an agreement with the IOC in regard with the postponement of the Games that were scheduled to open on July 24, 2020with Paralympics on August 25, due to Coronavirus or COVID-19 outbreak.

The move comes as the first such delay in the 124-year history of the modern Games.
