An Israeli official on January 5 confirmed that Israel’s health ministry has authorised a vaccine against COVID-19 that has been developed by U.S. drugmaker Moderna Inc.
The authorisation marks the vaccine’s third regulatory authorisation and the first outside North America. “Ministry of Health of Israel has secured 6 million doses and first deliveries (are) expected to begin in January,” confirmed the company in a statement issued by it.
It is to be noted that Israel has begun vaccinating its population at one of the quickest rates in the world.
Moderna has received authorisation in the United States and Canada and is under review in the European Union, Singapore, Switzerland and Britain.
