Israeli delegation visits Sudan to discuss normalizing ties

As a minister aniticipated a possible diplomatic breakthrough between Israel and Sudan, Israeli public broadcaster Kan radio said that an Israeli delegation made a visit to Sudan on October 21 to discuss normalising ties.

According to Israeli Intelligence Minister Eli Cohen, his country was “very close to normalizing ties with Sudan”. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office and the Israeli Foreign Ministry have refused to comment on the prospects for a breakthrough between the two nations.

Meanwhile, the United States has begun the process of removing Sudan from its list of state sponsors of terrorism and also is working to get Khartoum in recognising Israel, said U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on October 21.
