Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of the Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has accused Israel of using ‘electronic weapons’ in the killing of Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. He made these remarks during the funeral of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.
Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, one of the prominent Iranian Scientists was assassinated near Tehran, as per the Iranian Defence Ministry
Fakhrizadeh was shot and injured “by terrorists” in his vehicle in Absard, a suburb in eastern Tehran, and later succumbed to his injuries in what amounted to a “martyr’s death,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry said.
Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was an Iranian officer in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and physics teacher at the Imam Hussein University in Tehran. He had been subject to a UN Security Council asset freeze and travel notification requirements because the Council said the IAEA had asked to interview Fakhrizadeh-Mahabadi and Iran refused to make him available. With respect to Fakhrizadeh-Mahabadi’s work Iran has provided some information which the IAEA says “are not inconsistent with its findings”, but the IAEA continues to seek corroboration of its findings.
According to the UN designation, Fakhrizadeh-Mahabadi was a senior Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics scientist and former head of the Physics Research Center (PHRC). The IAEA asked to interview him about the activities of the PHRC over the period he was head, but he had refused.
