India’s invitation to Australia for participation in mega navy drill in indo-pacific region “hugely beneficial”, says US

A top US diplomat, on India’s move of considering an invitation to Australia to form part of the next Malabar naval exercise, has said that Canberra’s participation in the drill along with the other three Quad members – India, Japan and the U.S. – will be “hugely beneficial” to strengthen the behaviours.

The remarks by Deputy Secretary of State Steven Biegun, came during a hearing on US policy regarding China. “India just recently invited Australia to participate in the Malabar exercises, which is now going to allow all four members of the quad to participate in a military exercise together that will be hugely beneficial to reinforcing the behaviours that are going to be necessary for us to defend our mutual interests,” said Mr. Biegun.

So far, India, Japan and the U.S. have been taking part in the naval drill, in the next edition of which, India is considering the move to invite Australia.
