India, Nigeria ready to expedite initiatives in energy, trade and other matters

A wide range of matters were discussed by External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar with his Nigerian counterpart Geoffrey Onyeama in a virtual meeting on September 1. The two sides held wide-ranging discussions on the entire gamut of the bilateral relations held between the two nations.  

The discussions between the two nations covered a wide spectrum of cooperation in fields including economic, trade, political, defence and security, cultural cooperation and developmental assistance.  

A joint statement released after the 75-minutes meeting, said, “India being the largest democracy in the world and Nigeria the largest democracy in Africa, share the values of pluralism, inclusiveness and sustainable development for all. Both sides agreed to maintain the momentum in strengthening the excellent ties for the mutual benefit of our two countries and peoples.”
