India invites Vietnam for its Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI)

To form a part of its Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI) that was launched by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi in 2019, during the East Asia Summit in Bangkok, Thailand, India has invited Vietnam. The development comes as both India and Vietnam are currently dealing with an aggressive China, the former since the Galwan face-off while the later since Chinese intrusion into its exclusive economic zone.

“India and Vietnam agreed to enhance their bilateral cooperation in line with India’s Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI) and the ASEAN’s Outlook on Indo-Pacific to achieve shared security, prosperity and growth for all in the region,” read a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Among the seven key pillars of the initiative are increasing trade connectivity- maritime transport and Maritime security, maritime ecology, maritime resources, disaster risk reduction and management, capacity building and resource sharing, academic cooperation, science and technology.
