On the historic peace negotiations going on between the Taliban and the Afghan government and related issues, India on September 15 held extensive talks with US special envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad.
Mr Khalilzad who arrived in New Delhi in the midst of the Afghan peace talks in Doha that seek to bring to an end the 19 years of war in Afghanistan that has claimed tens of thousands of lives and ravaged various parts of the country, was received by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Mr. Jaishankar tweeted, “Glad to receive Amb. Zalmay Khalilzad @US4AfghanPeace this evening. Useful discussions on the Doha Meeting and its follow-up.” It must be noted that India has been a major stakeholder in maintaining peace and stability in Afghanistan and has already invested USD 2 billion in in the country for aid and reconstruction activities.
