In preventive measures against Coronavirus, Jerusalem’s Holy Sepulchre shut down

Revered in Christian tradition as the holy site where Jesus’ crucifixion and burial was done, Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre has been shut down on Wednesday, March 25. The move comes as part of the preventive measures taken by the government of Israel to contain the spread of the deadly Coronavirus. The closure comes up just before the Easter, the most important festival in the Christian calendar.

The decision regarding the closure of the holy site comes after a meeting was conducted between the Israeli Police and the Church leaders, in the wake of the increased number of Coronavirus cases that have now climbed up to 2,369 with two more deaths of Israelis overnight, bringing the count to five, said the Health Ministry.

This comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Wednesday, March 25, warned of complete lockdown within next few days till there is an immediate improvement in the trend of number of infected people.
