The International Cricket Council (ICC) has launched a fundraising campaign to boost UNICEF’s emergency Covid-19 response in South Asia through its ‘Cricket for Good initiative.’
The initiative was launched ahead of the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) final, which will be played in Southampton on Friday between India and New Zealand.
The world cricket governing body stated that ICC’s contribution to UNICEF at this critical moment will harness the strength and reach of cricket, one of the world’s most popular sports, to safeguard the lives and futures of children.
Audiences will be contacted for help during the game through in-game commentary.
In addition, the ICC and Tech Mahindra, the WTC Final’s merchandising partner, have developed a Covid-19 relief collection, with 10% of revenues going to UNICEF’s relief efforts in South Asia.
