The entertainment industry of India, Bollywood, paved way for a virtual fundraising event on May 3 with the team efforts of Indian directors Karan Johar and Zoya Akhtar and the charity organisation ‘Give India’. The fundraising event was streamed live on Facebook and was dubbed as ‘I For India’.
‘I For India’ was streamed by thousands of people around the world. Organizers hope the event will raise over a million dollars that could aid the country fight the pandemic.
Dozens of actors and musicians performed in the livestream to raise money for India’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Several big names including world-renowned actor Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan and musicians including A.R. Rahman gave inspiring speeches and performances in the Facebook Live event.
Not just Bollywood stars, but several international stars including Mick Jagger, Joe Jonas and Mindy Kaling also took part.
A description under the event’s livestream read, “100% of all proceeds of #IForIndia will go to GiveIndia’s Covid 19 relief efforts. This will help provide PPE kits to healthcare workers and food, rations, and cash relief to daily wagers and migrant workers”.
