General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno is the new interim head of Chad

After his father Idirss Deby died, General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno has been proclaimed as the Interim Head of the State.

General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno has picked 14 generals to compose the transitional military council (CMT), which was established following the death of former President Idriss Deby Itno, father of General Mahamat, according to the first decree of the CMT published by public television.

The rebels too have objected to this move, saying: “Chad is not a monarchy.”

Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, also known as “General Kaka”, was in charge of the presidential guard and is to lead the country for 18 months until elections.
