French President Emmanuel Macron has said that the country has no immediate plans to reduce forces in the Sahel region. Macron made these remarks at the virtual summit of G5 Sahel countries.
“Significant changes will undoubtedly be made to our military system in the Sahel in due course, but they will not take place immediately,” Macron said.
“It would be paradoxical to weaken our deployment at a time when we have a political and military alignment that enables us to reach our goals,” he said.
Macron had tweeted: : In the Sahel, the results are there. We Europeans are mobilizing more widely. We, members of the Coalition for the Sahel, combine all our efforts behind a collective dynamic for and with the populations.
