France confirms first case of new COVID-19 variant emerged in UK

The health ministry of France has confirmed its first case of a new Coronavirus variant emerged in the United Kingdom.

The first case of the new variant in France has been reported in a citizen living in Britain who arrived from London on December 19. The London returnee is asymptomatic and self-isolating at home in Tours in central France, the Ministry informed late December 25.

They were tested in a hospital on December 21 and were found to be positive for the strain. The health authorities have begun contact tracing, said a statement by the concerned ministry.

It must be noted that the new virus strain is said to be more contagious and has prompted more than 50 nations across the world to impose ban on travel from UK.
