Former Rwanda PM alleged with writing false cheques

Over alleged charges of issuing cheques that were not backed by funds in the bank, Former Rwanda Prime Minister Pierre-Damien Habumuremyi has appeared in court in the capital, Kigali.

Former Rwanda Prime Minister Pierre-Damien Habumuremyi has been in office between 2011 and 2014. He even owns his own private university and is accused of failing to pay suppliers and writing cheques that could not be cashed.

Habumuremyi was arrested a few weeks ago but in court, he applied for bail denying the charges imposed on him.

Former Prime Minister Pierre-Damien Habumuremyi, also server as the Education Minister of Rwanda. He told the court that he was in the process of paying his accusers, and asked to be released to be able to carry on.

The court will decide on his bail application next week.
