Following the crisis unfolding in the Central African Republic, says Russia

Russia is closely monitoring the crisis unfolding in the Central African Republic, said the Kremlin. The move comes after the government alleged an attempted coup ahead of the elections this week.

President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the crisis as “a cause for serious concern” and said, “We are of course monitoring and analyzing the situation.” However, Peskov did not comment on reports earlier December 21 that Russia had dispatched “hundreds” of troops to the impoverished country.

It must be noted that under Putin, Russia has south to expanding its footprint in the continent.
