Libyan officials, along with representatives from the European Union, the United Nations, and the World Bank, today launched the Recovery and Peacebuilding Assessment (RPBA), which will aid in mapping Libya’s post-conflict recovery.

The assessment aims to priorities what is required to improve fundamental governance and institutions, enable a robust social and economic recovery, promote national reconciliation, build a national development plan, and coordinate foreign aid for Libya in these efforts.

Since 2008, the European Union, the United Nations, and the World Bank have collaborated to aid countries throughout the world in their recovery from conflict-related or natural disasters. The Assessment of Recovery and Peacebuilding assists governments in developing a strategy for prioritizing recovery and peacebuilding operations. It also serves as a forum for talks with local, national, and international stakeholders about conflict resolution and recovery priorities, and it fosters inclusive consensus-building and early planning. National and international specialists will collect current quality information and data in the first phase of the Recovery and Peacebuilding Assessment, which is intended to inform and enable the government to go forward with the Recovery and Peacebuilding Assessment.

The assessment’s purpose is to identify, cost, and validate short- and long-term recovery and peacebuilding priorities, as well as to sketch out an implementation plan and finance strategy.
