EU-China September’s Summit stands cancelled pertaining to COVID-19 pandemic

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the European Union and China have decided to cancel a planned summit in Germany in September. The news has been confirmed by the Spokesman of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The travel restrictions imposed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic across the globe has been one of the factors that resulted in the cancellation of the summit. The summit was scheduled to take place in Leipzig.

Steffen Seibert, Spokesman of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, said that in phone calls between Angela Merkel, European Council President Charles Michel and China’s President Xi Jinping, the leaders agreed “that the meeting could not take place at the scheduled time in view of the overall pandemic situation, but that it should be postponed”.
