Ethiopian PM gives 72 hours time to Tigrayan regional forces to surrender

Giving Tigrayan regional forces 72 hours’ time to surrender before the military begins an offensive on the regional capital of Mekelle, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, in a message posted on the micro-blogging site Twitter said, “We urge you to surrender peacefully within 72 hours, recognising that you are at the point of no return.”

However, there has been no comment made by the Tigrayan forces immediately.

The military spokesman had earlier said that advancing Ethiopian troops were planning to surround the regional capital of Mekelle with tanks and might also shell the city to force surrender.

Refusing to surrender its rule of the northern region, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) said it forces were digging trenches and standing firm.
