An event Monday evening brought together UN ambassadors from 25 different African countries to further improve Israel-Africa cooperation.
The event featured Sivan Ya’ari, the founder of Innovation: Africa, and Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, as part of Erdan’s initiative to strengthen Israeli relations with African countries and keep Israel’s observer status in the African Union.
Erdan and Ya’ari announced new efforts for Africa at the event, along with MASHAV – Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation – and other Israeli groups, including plans to connect roughly 2,000 villages throughout the continent to running water and renewable electricity.
Through several cooperation spearheaded by the Foreign Ministry, Israeli invention has resulted in the linking of thousands of African villages to water and power. The event brought attention to the importance of electricity in improving people’s lives in Africa.
