Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi has said he will lend support to the transitional government in Libya. The Egyptian President said during a televised comment that the appointment of the interim government Friday, which includes a three-member Presidential Council and a prime minister, was “a step in the right direction.”
“We are supportive of them. … We are ready to cooperate with them for Libya’s recovery and to prepare for the elections in Libya,” el-Sissi said.
On February 5, the 74-members of the UN-led Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) selected an interim Prime Minister and President of its new executive council, marking what the UN Special Representative called another “historic moment” on the road to unification of the war-torn country and national elections in December.
