Egypt receives letter of support from DR Congo on GERD issue

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has received a letter from President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix Tshisekedi, outlining support for the Egyptian position regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). 

According to a statement by the Egyptian Presidency, El-Sisi received Congolese presidential advisor Jean-Claude Kabongo in Cairo, where he delivered a message from Tshisekedi. 

According to the statement, the DRC expressed its support for Egypt on the GERD issue, and aspirations to develop bilateral ties with Egypt and benefit from its expertise in the fields of infrastructure and major developmental projects. 

President Al-Sisi expressed his appreciation of the DRC’s support regarding Egypt’s access to River Nile water, and said that Egypt welcomes all cooperation with fellow African countries, including access to the huge potential and rich resources available across the continent.
