To discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the ECOWAS Region, the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government held an Extraordinary Session through video-conference on April 23, 2020, at 10:00 am Universal Time.

The ECOWAS has been working in close collaboration and coordination with international organisations to support the fight against the pandemic. The ECOWAS had immediately made available financial assistance to address the COVID-19 situation in the Region.

The financial aids have been utilised to purchase the medical supplies and equipment essential for the fight against the COVID-19.

The ECOWAS reiterates its solidarity with Member States and welcomes all the measures already taken to contain the spread of the pandemic and care for the sick.

Earlier on April 21, 2020, to discuss the COVID-19 situation, Finance Ministers and the Governors of Central Banks across the region held a virtual Extraordinary Session.
