DPRK introduces smoking ban in some public places

In a move to provide citizens with “hygienic living environments”, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s legislature on November 4 rolled out smoking bans in certain public places.

The President of the Presidium of the SPA Choe Ryong Hae, who presided over the meeting, adopted the Tobacco-Prohibition Law and Revising and Supplementing the Law on Enterprises, which bans smoking in specific venues, including political and ideological education centers, theaters and cinemas and medical and public health facilities, failing to which people will be slapped with fines.

The Supreme People’s Assembly (SPA) said, “The tobacco-prohibition law aims to protect the lives and health of its people by tightening the legal and social controls on the production and sale of cigarettes.”
