Daily tally of COVID-19 deaths hit record in Iran; Health Officials say actual toll even worse

The daily death tally reported due to Coronavirus on November 1, Iran hit a high record of 434 deaths. However, the Health Ministry and the head of a top medical body have announced that the actual toll was even worse than the official account.

The actual toll was at least three times higher than the official one, said the health Ministry. “The official death toll is only based on the number of registered patients. Through field surveys in hospitals and cemeteries, our Council has obtained a figure at least three times higher than the official death toll,” said the head of Iran’s Medical Council, Mohammadreza Zafarghandi.

Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari announced that the deaths took the official toll to 35,298 in Iran, the worst-hit country in the Middle East. The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country has increased by 7,719 to 620,491.
