Country’s economic development plan fell short in almost all areas, says Kim Jong Un

State media on January 6 reported that North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un admitted that the economic development plan of the country had fallen short in “almost all areas” as he opened a rare congress of the ruling Workers’ Party.

The Congress opened on January 5 in the capital city and on the first day of his work review, Kim said that the results of the last five-year economic development strategy “fell extremely short of our goals in almost all areas”.

The gathering was first of its kind in five years and only eighth in the nuclear-armed country’s history, which came just weeks before US President-elect Joe Biden takes office.
