COP26 President calls on government to not to forget the urgency of Climate Change amid COVID-19 crisis

COP26 President Alok Sharma has called on the governments of nations across the world to not to forget about the urgency of Climate Change amid the COVID-19 crisis.

He urged the nations to beef up their efforts to tackling the climate change even as the immediate urgency of the Coronavirus pandemic usurps attention and funding. During the opening session of the United Nations’ two-week Climate Dialogues that began virtually on November 23, Sharma said, “We are calling for new, more ambitious, nationally determined contributions and long-term strategies setting out a pathway to net-zero emissions.”

He further called on the nations for enhanced climate finance commitments to extend support to the most vulnerable and “crucially, ambitious adaptation plans and underlying policies”.
