Conflicts in Libya escalates despite COVID-19 outbreak

The United Nations has earlier requested countries worldwide to stop the on-going tensions so as to provide humanitarian concern to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Disregarding the requests, the conflicts in Libya has seen no end despite the COVID-19 outbreak. Per the reports of the United Nations mission to Libya, the recent week has witnessed attacks on civilians, residential areas and a prison break that adds to the long list of violent incidents ongoing in Libya.

The statement released by the UN mission to Libya highlighted unconfirmed reports of revenge attacks including looting and torching of public and private properties in coastal towns.

The intensification of fighting in recent days which resulted in casualties has raised the risk bar for further internal displacement of civilians, says the UN mission to Libya.
