China urges Canada for immediate release of Huawei’s chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou

According to a Foreign Ministry spokesperson, China on September 21, urged Canada for immediate release of Huawei’s chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou while asking the latter to let her safely return to China in order to bring bilateral relations on the right track.

“We urge Canada to earnestly respect China’s solemn position and concerns, release Meng at once and ensure her safe return to China, so as to create conditions for the bilateral relationship to get back on the right track,” said Spokesperson Wang Wenbin.

It must be noted that China had detained two Canadian citizens- Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor- after the arrest of Meng Wanzhou, pointing at which, Wang said, “The Chinese judicial organs handle cases independently and the lawful rights of the two Canadians are guaranteed.”
