In a move to extend humanitarian assistance in the global crisis created as a result of the corona pandemic, China has been sending logistic and human resource support to a number of African countries.
In a statement on May 31, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said that China will give Africa 30 million test kits per month, as well as 10,000 ventilators and 80 million masks.
President Cyril Ramaphosa didn’t reveal the time of the start of the initiative neither did he disclosed the time frame of the plan initiated by Beijing.
President Ramaphosa, who is the Chairperson of the African Union, also defended the decision to reopen the economy of Africa’s most industrialized nation. He said, “It’s now time to open up the economy. We cannot keep it shut forever.”
Speaking of the dearth of health resources, President Cyril Ramaphosa said that South Africa will need up to 25,000 ICU beds at peak of pandemic.
