On January 6, China and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for furthering cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
After earlier talks in Kinshasa, the MoU was signed by Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his DRC counterpart, Marie Tumba Nzeza.
“The BRI is an important international cooperation initiative and is committed to promoting economic complementarity among countries, synergizing development strategies, forming joint development efforts, and realizing common development and prosperity,” said Wang.
For his first overseas trip in 2021, the Chinese diplomat is on a five-nation tour in Africa where DRC is his second stop after his visit to Nigeria and he will be travelling to Botswana, Tanzania, and Seychelles.
