China calls for resumption of talks with the US after Joe Biden win

China’s top diplomat has called on for resumption of talks with the United States with Joe Biden’s win. The move comes as ties between the world’s two largest economies continued to deteriorate over a series of issues from trade and China’s human rights record to its expansionist ambitions in the South China Sea.

During a video call with the board of the US-China Business Council (USCBC) on December 7, foreign minister Wang Yi stressed that the two sides should work together and said, “We need to strive to restart the dialogue, get back on the right track, and rebuild mutual trust in the next phase of China-US relations.”

The remarks from Wang Yi came days after Washington unveiled travel restrictions for the Chinese Communist Party over human rights abuses.
