Chances of UK and EU securing free-trade deal rated “unlikely”

The European Union’s Chief negotiator has said that the chances of the United Kingdom and the EU securing a free trade deal this year are unlikely while the UK has said that such a deal could still be reached in September this year.

After Britain left the European Union in January, the talks on trade agreement and other future ties are often seemed to be struggling. British Brexit negotiator David Frost said that the EU had failed to recognise the economic and political independence of the UK on the main issues, to which, the EU’s top Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier, said that London had denied to move on its red lines, adding further that they were not showing “the same level of engagement and readiness to find a solution.”

Michel Barnier further said that the time is quickly running out and warned that if the two sides do not reach an agreement on the future partnership, there will be more friction.
