Chairperson of AUC condemns murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, U.S.

The African Union Commission’s  (AUC) Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat has condemned the murder of George Floyd in the Unites States’ city of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

A statement issued on behalf of Mahamat by his spokesperson Ebba Kalondo, read, “The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat strongly condemns the murder of George Floyd that occurred in the United States of America at the hands of law enforcement officers, and wishes to extend his deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Floyd died on Monday, May 25 after a white Minneapolis police officer used his knee to pin Floyd’s neck to the ground for several minutes. The death has been condemned all across the world with ever-growing calls for accountability of the police.
