Bank of Industry Joins UN’s Responsible Banking Principles

The Bank of Industry (BoI) has signed the UN Principles for Responsible Banking, a single framework for a sustainable banking industry produced through collaboration between banks throughout the world and the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI).

The Principles are the leading framework for ensuring that banks’ strategy and practises are in line with the vision for society’s future set out in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement.

Companies that sign the Principles pledge to be ambitious in their sustainability initiatives, seeking to mainstream and embed sustainability into the core of their operations while being at the forefront of sustainable finance.

Mr. Olukayode A. Pitan, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of BoI, noted that they were honoured to be the first Development Finance Institution in Nigeria to sign the UNEF FI Principles for Responsible Banking alongside other prominent DFIs globally.

This worldwide framework will improve their approach to tackling the country’s economic development difficulties by critically examining its market to discover pressing community, environmental, and customer needs.
