All accounts linked to Myanmar military banned by Facebook

Social Networking giant Facebook has decided to impose a ban on all accounts linked to Myanmar’s military as well as ads from military-controlled companies. This decision comes in wake of the coup by military on February 1 that overthrew the democratically elected government.

“Events since the February 1 coup, including deadly violence, have precipitated a need for this ban,” the social media giant said in a blog post. “We believe the risks of allowing the Tatmadaw (Myanmar’s army) on Facebook and Instagram are too great.”
