Ahead of a consulate, US opens “virtual” diplomatic post in Western Sahara

The State Department of the United States on December 24, informed that the country, ahead of a consulate, will be opening a “virtual” diplomatic post in Western Sahara.

Taking it to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on December 24, tweeted, “Pleased to announce the beginning of the process to establish a US consulate in Western Sahara.”

The development by the United States comes after recognizing Moroccan sovereignty over the disputed territory earlier this month. Also it comes as a part of a larger agreement revealed by US President Donald Trump, under which Morocco became the latest Arab state to recognise Israel.
