ADB Praises Fiji Government’s Decision to Restart International Travel

The Pacific Associate Economic Officer of the Asian Development Bank praised the Fijian government for taking steps to safely resume international travel.

Cara Tinio believes that the smartest method to address economic challenges is to open the international border.

On December 1st, Fiji opened its doors to tourists, welcoming hundreds of visitors from travel partner countries. The government of Fiji is hopeful that recovery will begin next year.

The Asian Development Bank has been keeping a close eye on tourism-oriented countries like Fiji. Wider vaccination against COVID-19, according to the ADB, allows for gradual reopening of borders, which is likely to promote trade and tourism in Fiji.
