Act swiftly to apprehend those responsible for separate attacks that took place on October 15, against peacekeepers under the U.N. Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), urged the United Nations to the Malian authorities.
Reiterating the same, Stéphane Dujarric, the U.N. Spokesman said, “The Secretary-General recalls that attacks targeting United Nations peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law. He calls on the Malian authorities to take urgent steps to apprehend and swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.”
The U.N. Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres has expressed his deep condolences to the families as well as the people and Governments of Egypt and Mali.
Both the attacks – the one occurred in the Kidal region and the second that was carried out in Timbuktu – killed an Egyptian and seriously injured another peacekeeper and wounded at least one Burkinabe peacekeeper, respectively.
