Abiy Ahmed orders Ethiopian troops to move into Tigray

On November 26, the Ethiopian Prime Minister said that the Ethiopian army has been ordered to move on the embattled Tigray regional capital after his 72-hour ultimatum for Tigray leaders to surrender ended. The statement issued on November titled, “Final Phase of Rule of Law Operation Commences” reads: “The 72 hard period granted to the criminal TPLF clique to surrender peacefully is now over and our law enforcement campaign has reached its final stage … The last peaceful gate which remained open for the TPLF clique to walk through has now been firmly closed. However, thousands of members of the Tigray militia and the special forces that have come to realise the destructive nature of TPLF have utilized the gates for peace and surrendered peacefully. The Ethiopian National Defence Forces have now been directed to conclude the third and final phase of our rule of law operations. In this final phase, great care will be taken to protect innocent civilians from harm”.
