The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to develop a framework of collaboration (Kuwait Fund) on August 1.
During a virtual signing ceremony attended by representatives of the Kuwait Fund and UNRWA, the Agreement was signed by Mr. Marwan Al-Ghanem, Deputy Director-General of the Kuwait Fund, and Ms. Tamara Alrifai, Acting Director of the UNRWA Department of External Relations and Director of Strategic Communications.
The new agreement will provide a framework for cooperation between the Kuwait Fund and the UN organization in charge of Palestine refugees. Ms. Alrifai expressed her excitement when the agreement was signed, saying that it sets the way for a collaboration that will help empower Palestine refugees and reduce their need for humanitarian aid.
Mr. Al-Ghanem stated that collaborating with UNRWA is an important element of their goal to improve the impact of their work in the lives of people who need it the most, and they are glad to cooperate with UNRWA to support Palestine refugees.
This agreement would establish a framework for the Kuwait Fund to help UNRWA’s efforts to improve access to education, health, and social services for the region’s 5.7 million registered Palestine refugees.
Since 1950, Kuwait has been a constant and loyal supporter of the Palestinian cause, notably UNRWA and its mission, donating approximately US$240 million in much-needed financial assistance.
Since 1961, the Kuwait Fund has been a significant organization in the Middle East, actively participating in international development activities.
