90 dead, over 30 missing in central Vietnam floods over past two weeks

As many as 90 people lost their lives and more than 30 went missing in Vietnam’s central region in past two weeks, due to floods, landslides and other natural disasters triggered by downpours, informed the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on October 19.

The provinces of Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam have majorly reported the fatalities, said the latest report by the committee.

Adding urther, the committee said that as of October 19, 6 am local time, around 37,500 households with 121,280 people in the localities of Quang Tri, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Thua Thien Hue had been evacuated to safer places while some 121,700 houses still remained inundated.

Meanwhile, heavy rains are likely to be witnessed in central localities until October 21.
