12 civilians killed, more than 40 wounded in missile strikes, says Azerbaijan

Further escalating the three-week conflict between ethnic Armenians and Azerbaijanis over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, Azerbaijan on October 17 said that at least 12 civilians were killed and more than 40 others were wounded in Azerbaijan’s second largest city of Ganja after a shelling attack on Stepanakert in the region.

However, there has been no official reaction from Armenia on the incident yet.

Two shells hit apartment buildings in the city, said the Azeri Prosecutor General’s office, accusing Armenia of continuing shelling in the populated areas.

“According to initial information, more than 20 houses were destroyed,” read a tweet by Hikmat Hajiyev, an assistant to Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.
